Saghirah comes to the Brisbane Academy of Middle Eastern Dance with
an impressive background not only in Middle Eastern dance but also
in Ballroom, Rockabilly, South American Latin and Argentinian Tango.
She has also completed two years of classical Spanish dance as well
as open Flamenco classes.
Saghirah commenced her study
of Middle Eastern dance with Belyssa's Academy of Danse Orientale
in Western Australia in 1994. In 1997 she moved to Sydney where
she studied with Terezka Drnzik, becoming a founding member of “The
Desert Blooms”. While in Sydney Saghirah had the opportunity
to attend workshops with interstate and international teachers such
as Amera Eid, Nayima Hassan, Horacio and Beata Cifuentes and Mahmoud
Reda. Since moving to Brisbane in 2000, Saghirah has had further
opportunity to attend workshops with master teachers including Aida
Nour and Dr Mo Geddawi
.
Saghirah has an interest in both the Classical Egyptian
and Folkloric styles as well as incorporating a western music twist.
She is a classy, elegant dancer who enjoys performing in the Brisbane
scene, including corporate events and functions, parties, festivals
and weddings. Saghirah is one of the teachers of the Academy of
Middle Eastern Dance and a member of the Oasis Dancers. 2004 marks
her 10th anniversary in Middle Eastern dance.
